A toast to Mom and Dad in celebration of 50 years of marriage, with apologies to Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, and George Orwell:

Two score ten years and seven days ago, Frank and Sally, in order to form a more perfect union, insure domestic tranquility, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to themselves and their posterity, got married. This new union, conceived in Arlington, was dedicated to the proposition that all spouses are created equal (with the understanding that some spouses are more equal than others).

We have come to dedicate a portion of this cake to those here who gave their suppport that this union might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.

But in a larger sense, we cannot hallow this marriage - the brave two who have struggled here have consecrated it far above our poor power to add or detract. The world may little note what they did, but we will never forget what Mom and Dad did for us. Congratulations, and here's to fifty more.
